Tryouts are here!

Registration Requirements:

  • Please complete registration prior to tryouts by seeing Sadé (Registration Director) on the first day of tryouts.
  • A $50 non-refundable tryout fee is required and must be paid on the first day of tryouts.
  • Be prepared to provide the following documents at the time of registration:
  • Athlete’s Birth Certificate
  • Medical Clearance Form

Tryout Dates for Benicia (Attendance Required):

  • Saturday, November 30th at 9:00 AM – A Parent Huddle will follow tryouts to discuss expectations and answer any questions.
  • Ongoing tryouts/practices will take place on Thursdays at 6:00 PM and Saturdays at 9:00 AM throughout December.

Holiday Break:

  • There will be no practices on Thursday, December 26th or Saturday, December 28th.

What to Expect During Tryouts:
Athletes will participate in a series of tests and evaluations to measure their speed, endurance, strength, and technique.

  1. Registration:
    • Check the registration requirements and deadlines for the tryouts.
    • Ensure you have any necessary forms or waivers completed and submitted.
  2. Dress Code:
    • Wear appropriate athletic clothing, including running shorts or sweat pants, a t-shirt, and running shoes with good traction.
    • Be prepared for both indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the location and weather conditions.
  3. Arrival:
    • Arrive at the tryout location on time, if not a little early, to allow for any check-in procedures.
  4. Warm-Up:
    • Begin with a thorough warm-up to prevent injuries. This may include jogging, dynamic stretches, and mobility exercises.
  5. Drills and Skills Assessment:
    • Expect to perform various drills and skills to assess your technique and athletic ability. This could include sprinting, long jumps, high jumps, hurdling, and throwing events (shot put, discus, javelin).
  6. Running Tests:
    • Be prepared for timed running tests, such as sprints (100m, 200m), middle-distance (400m, 800m), or long-distance (1500m) runs.
    • Coaches may also evaluate your running form, stride, and endurance during these tests.
  7. Field Events:
    • If you’re interested in field events (e.g., javelin, long jump, shot put), you’ll likely have the opportunity to showcase your skills in these areas.
  8. Hydration and Nutrition:
    • Stay hydrated throughout the tryout, and consider bringing water and snacks to keep your energy levels up.
  9. Attitude and Effort:
    • Show a positive attitude, teamwork, and a strong work ethic during the tryout.
    • Listen to coaches’ instructions and be open to feedback.
  10. Recovery:
    • After the tryout, cool down with stretching and light exercises.
    • Rest and recover adequately to avoid injury.
  11. Results and Feedback:
    • The coaching staff will  inform you of the results and provide feedback on your performance.

Remember that tryouts are not only about your physical abilities but also about your attitude, commitment, and willingness to improve. We are looking for athletes who are dedicated to the sport and the team.
